Going back to simplicity can involve a whole new set of skills – or way of thinking about the world. Our workshops cover a range of inspiring topics to bring you closer to the earth. These are the options:

Apothecary workshops

Ever wanted to make your own soaps, facecreams, natural make-up, tinctures, perfumes or massage oils? Or to learn about how to use healing plants in personal care? During the apothecary workshop you will learn about a selection of plants from the Cederberg, with suggestions on alternatives you may have in your garden. You will then get to take part in making one or two of the following options: Farmhouse soap, Herbal tincture, Healing balm, skin repair or massage oil, Bath salts, Deodorant balm, moisturiser, suncream, perfume.

This workshop runs for 2-3 hours.

Bread-making workshops

Making your own bread from scratch, potentially without an oven or even yeast, is a long lost art for most. But not in the Cederberg! Here, it is a daily practice and there are people from the local community who are willing to impart the know-how. This workshop runs for four hours, to allow time for the dough to rise properly. While you wait, you will be learning the art of fynbos-infused jam or marmalade-making. The perfect accompaniment to your delicious living farm bread. Wheat free options available. Workshop choices include: Making of roosterkoek, Making of sourdough bread or ashbread, Making of sourdough bread with yeast derived from plants or vegetable scraps, The option to make infused jam, marmalade or fynbos-infused butter / dipping oil.

Costs include a take-home of bread with condiment. Pre-booking with minimum three days' notice is absolutely essential.

Tracking wilderness storytelling

There is a world full stories to be found in the sand, if only you know the language. The purpose of this interactive walking experience is to help you gain a richer experience of what is happening in the natural world around you. Led by JP and community members who are also are enthusiastic followers of the “bush news broadcast”. Expect a walk of around two hours. Pre-booking is essential.

Wellness autonomy workshop

Living on a farm, equipped with self-help techniques from kinesiology and a working knowledge of plant medicine and general nutrition, we can honestly report that our family almost never visits a doctor. While we are not qualified or permitted to dispense medical advice or put you off your prescribed regimen, we do have a range of techniques and information that are helpful for gaining a certain amount of personal autonomy, both in the maintenance of health, immunity and wellness and in dealing naturally with common health complaints. This workshop is facilitated by Tracy and is about 2-3 hours in duration.

Mindful sketching workshop

Time spent sketching in nature is its own form of mindful contemplation. This is true regardless of whether you are an accomplished artist, an enthiastic amateur, or someone who believes they have no talent at all. JP, who studied as a fine artist at the National School of the Arts facilitates this experience in observation and sketching.

The workshop is three hours in duration but you might end up taking your artwork to complete in your own time. The medium used is pencil.

Wild-in-us Natural State workshop

Cumulative conditioning, trauma and our dualistic world mindset create, in many of us, a way of being that is tamed. That is, separated from our wild, authentic personal truth. During this workshop, we work with you and your group to deconstruct this old way of thinking. Workshop elements include theory, exercises and discussion, plus time spent in the wild and in the water.
Workshop duration: 3 hours
