Dassie Den

Secluded glamping with a spectacular view of the cliffs

Sleeps 6. Recommended maximum four adults
Cradled by cliffs that form a natural amphitheatre, Dassie Den offers sweeping views of the Rocklands escarpment. Light moves across the rock face like theatre, shifting from gold to rose to deep indigo.
Guests often find themselves doing very little here — and discovering that it is enough.
Despite its proximity to the main routes through Rocklands, the space feels profoundly private. Wildness takes precedence.

The accommodation itself features a stone-clad deck with roll-down blinds, a roofed but open eco-kitchen with full electric fridge and gas oven, and a bathroom featuring a restored Victorian tub and open shower. Windows onto the bush make you feel as if you are outdoors. There is also a large stone braai and firepit.

The sleeping areas are simple: a furnished safari with one room featuring a double bed and an adjoining room with two bunks. We have recently added a second safari tent, fully furnished with two single beds, tucked into the bush beneath a Yellowwood tree. This gives you proper privacy for two couples.

Dassie is partially off-grid, but does have hot water (by solar geyser augmented with wood burning boiler for rainy days), a gas cooker and solar lighting. There is a full-size electrical fridge plus plug points to charge devices.

Towels, linen and gas for cooking are supplied. There is one queen size bed in the main room, and then a set of two bunk beds in a separate room. The additional safari tent sleeps an extra two people in matching single beds, which can be pushed together to create a double. Dassie Den sleeps up to six people, but we generally recommend that you stick to four adults.

RATES FOR 2026: R1250 per night.
